Have you ever wondered why people think and act in a certain way? Are you interested in power and control or why inequality, discrimination and other misfortunes still exist within a ‘civilised’ society? If so, this Sociology degree can help you better understand the world around you.

Sociology investigates social life and the way it shapes people’s behaviour, beliefs and identity. Identifying social problems and understanding how social conditions impact our lives – in education, employment, wealth, health and more.

Engaging in thought-provoking subject matters, our Sociology degree examines the face-to-face interactions of daily life to large-scale social institutions, social movements and global processes.

At Bangor University, our Sociology degree draws on theory, evidence and real-world experience to make sense of social structures, social identities and social change. It aims to equip you with the tools and mindset to tackle social problems in the future.

Studying alongside students from different backgrounds enables you to consider contemporary issues through the lens of others. Helping you to develop personal and professional skills and help you understand and appreciate opposing views and opinions.

You’ll be taught by academics with expertise in topical areas like identities (race, democracy, nation), social issues (housing, inequality), crime and justice, media, political action and technology. You’ll also hear first-hand experiences from those supporting social change. Previous talks have covered racial equality by Race Council Cymru, children’s rights from Action For Children and domestic violence from Welsh Women’s Aid.
