There has never been a better time to study geography. Now, more than ever, as we grapple with global issues around food, water and energy security, forced climate migration, conflicts and political instability, increasing population and anthropogenic climate change. Understanding the complex relationships between the Earth, its environment and inhabitants is vital to developing the answers to these challenges.
On this BA (Hons) Geography, you’ll investigate the reciprocal and ever-changing relationship between human society and the natural world. Learn about social, political, economic and environmental geography, in a global context whilst also exploring our regional geography that has a rich history of industrialisation, colonialism, language and identity. The physical and societal impacts of Eryri’s slate quarries, which ‘roofed the 19th Century world’ are clear to see, but you will also learn about regeneration and green economies.
At Bangor, you don’t have to study human or physical geography exclusively. Our wide range of specialist modules give you flexibility to explore the topics that interest you most across the discipline. Current options range from space and identity to sustainability and governance, as well as geohazards or catchment management.
Our strong employer links include Eryri National Park Authority, Natural Resources Wales, UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, Dŵr Cymru/Welsh Water, the Environment Agency and Natural England. Some employers contribute guest lectures, whilst many offer opportunities for work placements.
Our programme is accredited by the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG). This Accreditation recognises that our programme is aligned with the QAA Subject Benchmark Statement for Geography, and our good practice in teaching and learning. GCSE: Grade C/4 in Mathematics and English Language or Welsh, if not demonstrated by the Level 3 qualification/s.
