This pathway through Computer Science combines a strong foundation in computer science with the creative aspects that are crucial for games development at every level. We’ve designed the course to give you the skills to join existing studios or strike out on your own as an independent developer. We place a strong focus on instilling professional skills and values, including communication, teamwork, self-management, discipline and independence, alongside an awareness of relevant ethical, legal, and social issues. Our aim is simple – we want to help you become a game professional with relevant skills and ability to keep yourself up to date with the rapid pace of developments in the field.
During this course you will learn the fundamentals of computer science and advanced programming skills, and benefit from specific skills in relation to game design. This course also relates to the research interest of the academic staff, including real-time computer graphics, artificial intelligence, animation, mixed reality (AR, VR, XR).
For the game design element of the degree, practical work - with game engines or physical game materials are integrated with opportunities to engage critically with theories of gaming culture, mechanics, narratives and aesthetics. Together these provide you with the insight needed to produce games that are both immersive and engaging.
This degree is all about game design and the computing that powers the games.
