Validated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), our Bachelor of Adult Nursing (BN) prepares you to become a professional, caring and competent nurse, who prioritises patient needs. It blends wide-ranging clinical placements* with research based theory and supported clinical skills training featuring virtual technologies, which enable you to practise skills in a supported environment.
Spending half of your time on placement instils the importance of being part of a wider healthcare team. On placement you are supported by designated placement tutors to enable you to develop your clinical skills. Your on-site supervisors and tutors will also share their experiences of delivering, leading and shaping adult care. Their backgrounds range from nursing in custody and for the armed forces to general practice, community-based services, acute and specialist services within hospitals, running wards or undertaking internationally-renowned research.
As a registered adult nurse, no two days are ever the same. You will be caring for the needs of people across the lifespan – from safeguarding the health of mothers and their babies, to supporting those nearing end of life.
Through clinical placements*, you will be able (subject to availability) to experience: acute sector nursing (general, specialist and surgical); critical care nursing (intensive and high dependency care, emergency department, theatres and recovery); and community nursing (in the home environment and primary care). You’ll begin taking observations and checking blood pressure, progressing to prepare for and supporting surgical procedures.
From the outset, clinical skills training builds the skills required to become a professional registered nurse. Our simulation-based training equipment, using VR and lifelike manikins, lets you safely examine ‘patients’ and interact in real-time to clinical situations based on real-life examples. This prepares you for the realities of working and responding to such situations, both on placement and future practice.
*Please note that in order to achieve the necessary diversity of placement experience to meet the requirements for clinical competency, you will need to travel to placements across Wales.

To work in the UK as a nurse, you must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). To do this, you first need to study an NMC-recognised degree programme, which leads to a specific degree qualification for your chosen field (adult, child, mental health or learning disability nursing).
Bangor University’s adult nursing degrees are developed and delivered with NHS partners and adhere to the NMC education standards. On graduation, you will be eligible to register with the NMC as an adult nurse. This opens up career opportunities in areas including A&E, specialist medical and surgical areas, intensive care, palliative care, and primary care settings.
Funding support for nursing students
Considerable financial support is available for tuition fees and can commit to working in Wales for two years on graduation. You could get your tuition fees covered in full through the NHS Wales bursary scheme and claim for a £1,000 bursary contribution to living costs. A wide range of additional support, subject to eligibility, is also available for childcare, parent learners, disabled students and more.
Furthermore, as part of the Welsh Government’s commitment to develop a bilingual workforce, additional financial incentives are available if you study part of your course in Welsh, even if you are not a Welsh speaker when you join us. We will support you to access Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Scholarships which could award you up to £1,000 for each year of your study, depending on how many credits you study in Welsh.

Admission Requirements
96+
GCSEs: applicants must normally have, or be working towards, a minimum of five GCSE grades A*-C/9-4 including GCSE Welsh or English first language and Mathematics/Numeracy (or a recognised alternative qualification), but consideration is given to individual circumstances.
Recognised alternative qualifications for Welsh/English and/or Mathematics are Essential Skills Level Two in Communication and Application of Number, or Functional Skills Level Two in English and Maths (must be achieved within the last 3 years). The Irish Leaving Certificate minimum of O4 is the equivalent to GCSE Grade C/4.

All applicants who meet the minimum academic entry requirements will be required to attend an individual interview, after which candidates will be notified if they have been shortlisted and further information will be required before final acceptance onto the course can be granted.
