Computers are everywhere, affecting all aspects of our lives and helping to make the world a better place. From improving healthcare, communication and access to education to preventing accidents or natural catastrophes.

Accredited by the IET, this Computer Systems Engineering degree combines the study of electronic engineering and computer science, covering both hardware and software engineering. Extensive practical experience, including designing networks, embedded microprocessors and integrated circuits, develops the skills and expertise to become a specialist in computer systems design.

With the fast pace of technological development, we draw on our own research to bring you the latest developments, for example, in AI simulations, digital twins and environmental sensing. Current projects include measuring rain fall to predict the risk of flooding across the UK and developing real-time sensors for monitoring pollution levels, to name just a few.

This BEng Computer Systems Engineering is accredited as meeting the Engineering Council’s UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC). Graduates with good degree results are automatically eligible to become Associate Members of the IET and full members after gaining industrial experience. You will be eligible to apply to become an Incorporated Engineer and, with further study, can progress to Chartered status.

IET accreditation is recognised globally as an indicator of quality. It provides reassurance to employers, government and society confidence that you can meet the engineering and technological needs of today, while anticipating the needs of, and impact on, future generations.

Computer engineering is used to design and equip digital devices with efficient software that meet technological, scientific and administrative needs of any industry. Our graduates go on to well paid and rewarding employment, designing and building the next generation of smart appliances, IoT devices and embedded systems. Recent graduates have gone on to work for Siemens, Jaguar Land Rover and Toyota, for example.

Thanks to our close links with Wales’s first dedicated science park, some of the tenants at M-Sparc have also previously sought out our students for employment on graduation.
