The vision and mission developed by the Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Brawijaya started from a concern, awareness and hope for the mega-biodiversity of Indonesia's tropical natural resources. Our biodiversity potential is enormous and has not been fully exploited for the welfare of humanity. In addition, changes in the biosphere and human intervention have caused the rate of species extinction to increase. Therefore, the big challenge for biologists in the future is to preserve biodiversity and the environment to support sustainable development.
This global trend underlies the determination of the Biology Department's VISION, namely that in 2039 the Biology Department will become an exemplary department in providing biology education in accordance with the best international standards, a place to conduct research to develop modern biological concepts and have a high awareness of preserving biodiversity, and play an active role in professional development ( KKNI level 7) related to biology for sustainable global development.
In accordance with the vision above, the Department of Biology has a MISSION to serve the people of East Java, Indonesian citizens and humanity through the best programs, namely:

Educate students to become graduates, professionals, masters and doctors who have a thorough understanding of modern biological concepts (the most up-to-date concepts currently applicable) and bioconservation, have good academic profiles/achievements, uphold ethics by respecting the right to life of all forms of life and able to work together in the environment.
To become a pioneer institution for lifelong education and biological research, which is able to discover new knowledge to solve biological problems in society, help improve welfare, preserve the environment, and develop professions (KKNI level 7) related to biology.
Strengthening healthy departmental organizations, effective and competitive governance towards good university governance
