Studying this Music and Film degree develops your skills as a musician, music or film researcher, composer, critic, artist, filmmaker, and screenwriter. You will be encouraged to experiment, exploring your creativity and finding new ways to express yourself through music, words and images.
Film at Bangor combines historical critical and creative work and practice. You will learn about the film industry, history and theory, as well as film-making techniques. You can also explore television, radio, computer games, music videos, podcasting, social media and AI. Get hands-on experience of the production process, including scriptwriting, directing, producing, art direction, cinematography and postproduction.
You will be able to study Music in culture, society and history as well as creatively through composition and performance. Staff expertise lie in early music, 20th and 21st-century music (including popular music), music editing, Welsh music, sonic art, composition, and contemporary and interactive performance. We enjoy close links with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Venue Cymru and Ensemble Cymru.

As well as unrivalled performance opportunities, our extensive music facilities include two professional standard concert halls, rehearsal spaces, practice rooms, and four electroacoustic composition and recording studios. We offer an excellent range of instruments and equipment, including a full-size organ, chamber organ, several harpsichords, harps and Steinway grand pianos.
Learn by doing with access to industry-standard digital media equipment and creative spaces that bring ideas to life. You’ll also have access to the professionally equipped public screening spaces in Pontio. As well as hosting our own media showcase, its cinema runs a range of industry events by the likes of the British Film Institute and Film Wales Network.

For all Music courses: the ability to read staff notation is required. Points from grade examinations are taken into consideration where appropriate, but are not normally included in the offer.
Offers are tariff based, 104 - 128 tariff points from a Level 3 qualification* e.g.:
We are happy to accept combinations of the qualifications listed above, as well as alternative Level 3 qualifications such as City & Guilds, Access and Cambridge Technical Diplomas.
We also welcome applications from mature learners.
International Candidates: International Candidates: school leaving qualifications that are equivalent to A levels/Level 3 and/or college diplomas are accepted from countries worldwide (subject to minimum English Language requirements). More information can be found on our International pages.

**Can be considered in conjunction with grade B in A level Music; or merit in the ABRSM/Trinity/LCM/Rockschool Grade 5 Theory/Grade 7 Practical; or IB Higher in Music.
