The MA in English (Applied English Linguistics) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong is an intensive one-year (full-time) or two-year (part-time) taught postgraduate programme. For a Taught Master’s Programme other than the Executive Master of Business Administration (Executive M.B.A.) Programme, the applicant shall have:
graduated from a recognized university and obtained a bachelor’s degree, normally with honours not lower than Second Class or achieving an average grade of not lower than “B”; or
completed a course of study in a tertiary educational institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.
In addition to the general requirements of the Graduate School, applicants should
normally possess a good honours degree in English or a language-related field;
display a strong interest and basic knowledge in applied linguistics;
submit a 500-word statement about their interests and goals related to postgraduate study in applied linguistics.
Preference will be given to applicants who have:
obtained a degree from a university in Hong Kong or taken a degree programme of which the medium of instruction was English, or achieved minimum scores in one of the following English language tests:
