The two-year part-time programme consists of generic modules for all students like biostatistics, genetic studies, immunology, advances in biomedicine as well as elective modules on anatomical pathology, hematologist, clinical chemistry and microbiology.  This is highly suitable for the careers of most medical laboratory scientists in Hong Kong.  There will be a research project and the requirement to submit an individual dissertation.  All classroom teaching is off hours.  The total credit units required by CUHK are 25 units, each unit equivalent of 13 hrs of teaching and learning.

Modules of anatomical pathology, clinical chemistry, microbiology and hematology are led by specialist pathologists or SOs of the respective specialties.   Classes for the electives are always small and less than 20 students.

There is an extremely high degree of student satisfaction.  Lectures are all supplemented by handouts.  Students always have a clear idea of the learning objectives and the requirements of the modules.  Drop outs or failures to complete are very rare and there is an active process to support needy students. Professors and staff are responsive.   Questions are always directly to a staff through emails or telephone rather than a program mailbox and messages are always quickly answered.
