The Department of Surgery is an integral part of the Faculty of Medicine based in the Prince of Wales Hospital. The programme is research-oriented. Students will have the opportunity to participate in international conference during the course of study. Each student will be required to deliver seminar, submit a written research thesis and pass an oral examination for graduation.
Fields of specialization:
- Minimally Invasive Surgery
- Cancer Research: Molecular Targets for Diagnosis and Treatment
- Biomedical Engineering
- Neurosurgery
In addition to the general requirements of the Graduate School, applicants should preferably have a recognized Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, MBChB or related discipline.

Admission Requirements
For the Master of Philosophy, Master of Fine Arts, or Master of Music Programme, the applicant shall have:
- graduated from a recognized university and obtained a bachelor’s degree, normally with honours not lower than Second Class; or
- graduated from an honours programme of a recognized university with a bachelor’s degree, normally achieving an average grade of not lower than “B”; or
- completed a course of study in a tertiary educational institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications equivalent to an honours degree.
