The "Master of Arts" program of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature is a part-time taught program, not full-time, and the duration of study is two to four years. Course subjects are divided into compulsory subjects and elective subjects, and students are required to take at least eight subjects (24 credits in total).

Program Objectives:

  • To enhance the professional knowledge of Chinese language, literature and culture;
  • To cultivate the research ability of language, ancient documents, classical literature and modern literature and other academic fields;
  • To improve the language ability, to cooperate with personal professional development, and to respond to social needs.

Applicants for the "Master of Arts" program of this department must not only meet the admission qualifications stipulated by the graduate school of the school, but also hold a bachelor's degree from a recognized university, majoring in or electing Chinese language, Chinese literature or other related disciplines. This course accepts applications from September every year, and applicants can apply for admission through the Internet of the school's graduate school.

For a Taught Master’s Programme other than the Executive Master of Business Administration (Executive M.B.A.) Programme, the applicant shall have:

  • graduated from a recognized university and obtained a bachelor’s degree, normally with honours not lower than Second Class or achieving an average grade of not lower than “B”; or
  • completed a course of study in a tertiary educational institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.

In addition to the general requirements of the Graduate School, applicants should preferably have majored or taken courses in Chinese language, Chinese literature or related fields. If deemed necessary, the Division may invite applicants to attend an interview and submit a personal statement in Chinese.
