The Master of Education Degree Programme in Teaching in Key Subject Areas (National Excellent Teacher Training Initiative) (the NETTI) is designed to meet the professional development needs of those interested in developing their educational career nationally in the Mainland. It aims to provide students with a solid grounding in state-of-the-art science education research, theories, and practice for a range of educational contexts in the region. The programme has been included in the second batch of pilot universities for the NETTI in the Mainland. Graduates of the programme can benefit from the policy that exempts them from taking the national primary and secondary school teacher qualification examination.

Students will be required to complete two 4-week teaching practicums in designated schools in the Mainland. The teaching practicums are expected to be conducted in May and June in the first and the second years of studies.

For a Taught Master’s Programme other than the Executive Master of Business Administration (Executive M.B.A.) Programme, the applicant shall have:

  • graduated from a recognized university and obtained a bachelor’s degree, normally with honours not lower than Second Class or achieving an average grade of not lower than “B”; or
  • completed a course of study in a tertiary educational institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.

In addition to the general requirements of the Graduate School, applicants should:

  • pass an entrance examination or interview conducted by the Graduate Division of Education, where required;
  • Students admitted to the programme will conduct teaching practice in collaborating schools in Mainland and therefore proficiency in Putonghua is required.  Preference will be given to applicants who have obtained a degree from a university in Mainland or taken a degree programme of which the medium of instruction is Putonghua.  In order to be eligible to obtain teacher qualification in Mainland after completing the programme, students should also attain Grade B, Level 2 or above in all papers in The Test of Proficiency in Putonghua conducted by the State Language Commission
