The programme is research-oriented. Students are required to have a sound research background. Besides the coursework requirement, PhD students are required to submit a thesis proposal and pass the candidacy examination within the maximum period of pre-candidacy stage for the advancement to post-candidacy stage. Both MPhil and PhD students are required to submit a research thesis and pass an oral examination for graduation.

For the full-time programme leading to the degree of PhD, it takes 48 months of supervised research study as the normative study period for an applicant entering without a research master’s degree. Applicants who wish to take a shorter research study may consider the MPhil stream of programme.

Applicants who aim to be researchers in the areas of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Speech Therapy, Audiology and related sciences are welcome to our programmes. Physicians, speech therapists, and audiologists who plan to advance their knowledge in research are also welcome.
