The doctorate in Hispanic American Literature is located in a field of study that currently arouses a high degree of professional and academic interest, and that in the past has enjoyed sustained development at PUCP. The central objective is the training of doctors in Literature whose skills and motivations contribute to the production of new knowledge in our discipline as well as the promotion of social and humanistic values ​​in our country. To this end, we promote the development of theoretical, critical, autonomous thinking situated in literature, in dialogue with other disciplines and other local, regional and global research networks.

The program is aimed at advanced research with a minimum of schooling, and is offered in face-to-face mode over a minimum of six academic semesters during which the doctoral student will work in individual sessions with his or her adviser, in addition to a co-advisor in the case of interdisciplinary theses. Additionally, the doctoral student will attend, together with the other doctoral students and the group of advisors in activity, the Work in Progress seminars at the end of the semester where each doctoral student will present to an audience of specialists the advances that represent the work carried out throughout the semester. 

The research developed in the research seminars will be registered within one of the six lines of research offered by the program and will have as its goal its advancement and deepening, in addition to the dissemination of the knowledge generated throughout said period of study. The purpose of the program is to prepare and support a thesis that represents an original contribution to advances in the line of research in which it is enrolled.
