The Master of Anthropology is one of the first postgraduate training programs in anthropology in Latin America. Founded in 1972, it has been important in the growth and consolidation of Peruvian anthropology.

Our master's degree trains professionals with a reliable handling of theoretical and methodological tools articulated around ethnographic research and based on empathetic and respectful relationships with their interlocutors. This knowledge that emerges from the analysis of specific social contexts is essential to contribute to the understanding of contemporary sociocultural complexity and tensions.

Anthropology analyzes human cultures and societies in their diversity, their complex forms of organization, their tensions and conflicts, and their multiple and inescapable relationships with the environment. It seeks to understand how culture, and the multiple relationships that it supposes between human beings, with other species and with the environment, constitutes us as human beings.

Training in anthropology is especially relevant in a multicultural country like Peru. Due to their history and the contemporary context of intense migratory, financial, commercial and information flows, our societies are made up of a great diversity of exchanges, tensions and socio-cultural conflicts that are not always well understood. Concepts such as ethnicity, culture, identity or indigenous peoples are used more and more frequently and are part of a global vocabulary. From where, why and for whom are these concepts being used and disputed? Due to its trajectory and its production, anthropology is essential for the critical analysis of the circulation of these and other concepts, making visible forms of instrumentalization, essentialization and exoticization of culture.
