This is how deep and successful reforms have been made in many areas of the economy, such as in the regulation and provision of basic services (electricity, drinking water, sewerage, sewage treatment and telephony), in social security (AFP, life annuities, unemployment insurance), in the promotion and defense of free competition (Tribunal for the Defense of Free Competition), in consumer protection (SERNAC) and in the targeting of social spending.
Despite the great advances shown in recent decades, Chile still has a long way to go to achieve development. Part of this path requires both microeconomic reforms that make it possible to improve the functioning of many markets, as well as reforms to the State that improve their functioning. The design of these reforms requires well-trained professionals in the use of economic tools applied to public policies.
