There is currently a consensus regarding the importance of training competent readers and producers of written texts throughout the entire schooling, at the same time as citizens capable of expressing themselves orally in multiple and varied communicative situations. Literacy has been defined as those reading and writing practices that are developed in each society, understood as social and cultural practices that respond to certain socio-historical contexts. Consequently, reading, writing and orality are configured as key skills in the social and personal life of a community and, therefore, it is the duty of the school to provide the necessary tools for the understanding and production of the various discourses.
This master's degree, from the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities, adopts a sociocultural approach that understands language as a continuum that becomes more complex as school progresses. In this context, the main purpose of this master's degree is to respond to the disciplinary and didactic updating needs required by teaching at different educational levels, and thus contribute to the quality and equity of Chilean education in the area of language teaching..
This master's degree is aimed at kindergarten educators, teachers of basic education, secondary education and differential educators who work in the different areas of language training.
In this master's degree, various didactic strategies are reviewed and put into practice regarding the learning and development of oral discursive skills, reading and production of written texts, as well as the importance of literature, from the stages of initial education to high school. The program also puts into perspective the new challenges posed by interculturality in the classroom, as a result of the recent migratory phenomenon in our country. Likewise, this program offers flexibility so that students can choose between the deepening modules according to the school levels in which they wish to specialize. In this way, this program allows a permanent dialogue between teachers of different school levels and, in turn, allows deepening according to the needs of each participant.
