Multidisciplinary program aimed at the training of graduates from music, humanities or social sciences to face the investigation of historical, social, cultural and / or artistic aspects of music, musicians, the public and the music industries in Chile or in Latin America. Likewise, the knowledge acquired in the program may be applied in teaching, archival, heritage, cultural industries, the media and public policies.
This Master summons people with and without formal musical training. The former will be able to guide their research by articulating structural, expressive and / or aesthetic aspects of music with historical, social or cultural phenomena. The latter will be able to orient their work towards aspects concomitant to the music itself, such as the study of audiences; production and consumption processes; the institutions; power relations; transculturation processes and everything that allows us to observe music as a historically situated social practice. In both cases, they will develop an interdisciplinary understanding of music by linking it to history, culture, and society from a Latin American perspective.
The graduate of the Master in Latin American Musicology, has adequate training in disciplinary and interdisciplinary issues of musical research oriented to the music of the written, oral or recorded tradition. Likewise, it considers musical, sound, textual, performative, discursive and / or visual aspects based on their competences, interests and disciplinary training.
