The Alberto Hurtado University, in its interest to deepen the different disciplines that converge on the problem of the image, imparts the tenth version of this master's degree, which seeks to reflect from a multidisciplinary approach about the perception, interpretation and social functions of images.
What is an image? How does it affect us? How have images been produced, used and understood in history? How do they relate to new media and technology? What are its links to meaning, truth, perception, and thought? What are the challenges that they pose to disciplines such as history, art history, philosophy or literature?
The academics of the master's degree investigate, among other subjects and objects, the photographs as historical documents; the relationships between cinema, sound, visual arts and literature and between images and texts in general; hermeneutical approaches to the problem of the image; the conception of writing as an image, the different media and techniques of image production in the course of history, as well as intermediality.
This master's degree offers a unique and innovative opportunity in Chile, which provides tools to address the image in its various contexts, supports and ideological, ethical, epistemological, political and cultural implications.
