Based on enduring and general themes, the Bachelor's degree in Physics is a demanding program at the heart of science and technology, closely linked to mathematics. Through the specificity of its approaches, methods, and tools, the applications of physics extend to all experimental sciences, environmental sciences, and even economics.

 

Structured over three years, the Bachelor's degree in Physics aims to guarantee a comprehensive, rigorous, and progressive scientific education. It seeks to develop in students a strong capacity for analyzing and modeling physical phenomena, as well as mastery of the mathematical, experimental, and numerical tools necessary for their understanding. Students learn to reason methodically, to argue clearly and precisely, and to demonstrate critical thinking skills when faced with complex situations.

The Bachelor's degree in Physics aims to provide each student with a solid foundation for further studies in a wide range of Master's programs and engineering schools.


The program progressively leads students to understand and manipulate, using mathematical tools, fundamental mechanisms at the microscopic scale, while simultaneously exploring macroscopic phenomena and systems, their modeling, and their links to microscopic processes. It thus covers all scales of the universe, from the infinitely small to the infinitely large. The curriculum encompasses the many fields of physics: mechanics, electromagnetism, optics, quantum physics, and thermodynamics .

 

To develop experimental approaches and techniques, each of these areas is explored through numerous practical projects. Students simultaneously take courses in fundamental mathematics, mathematical tools for physics, numerical and computer methods, and, in their first year, chemistry or electronics .


The scientific curriculum is complemented by general courses in English, written expression, career preparation, and an introduction to major societal challenges .


Within a dynamic scientific hub, students benefit from direct and stimulating contact with researchers to discover the broad spectrum of this discipline.


The Bachelor's degree in Physics can be prepared in parallel with the Bachelor's degree in Mathematics via the intensive " Double Bachelor's Degree - Mathematics-Physics " program.

Admission Requirements

Required training(s)
  • Admission to the first year (L1):  Baccalaureate or equivalent diploma. It is strongly recommended to have taken Mathematics as a specialization and either Physics-Chemistry or Engineering Sciences in the final year of high school. Optional courses in advanced mathematics are also welcome. All other high-quality applications will be considered. In such cases, admission may be granted with the first year spread over two years and a preparatory course (admission "YES IF").

A high distinction (mention très bien) or a distinction (mention bien) on the Baccalaureate is strongly recommended for direct entry into the first year.

  • Admission to the second year (L2):  The prerequisite is having earned 60 ECTS credits in the first year (L1) of a Physics degree. More generally, any application with a validated first year (L1) in a Physics-focused program will also be considered; this particularly concerns anyone holding a first-year degree from the Science and Technology Portal at Université Côte d'Azur. Students who have completed a year of preparatory classes for the Grandes Écoles (CPGE) in science may be admitted to the second year (L2) or redirected to the first year (L1), after review of their application.
  • Admission to the third year of undergraduate studies (L3):  The prerequisite is having completed the second year of undergraduate studies (L2) in Physics. Students who have completed two years of scientific preparatory classes (CPGE) may be admitted to the third year (L3) or redirected to the second year (L2), after review of their application.
