The main objective is to train in medical imaging and molecular imaging physicists or engineers who wish to direct their career in this field of research, or doctors who wish to pursue a hospital-university career.
The training objectives are essentially oriented towards methods and instrumentation, relying on the unique expertise available at Paris-Saclay (physicists from Paris Sud, major schools and research organizations including the CNRS and the CEA). However, image processing represents an important part of the program (contributions from researchers from INSERM, CEA and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications). In terms of professional objectives, the objective is to support the tremendous explosion experienced by medical imaging and molecular imaging methods in recent decades, both in the field of research and clinical diagnosis. The students we train should be able not only to understand medical imaging methods, but also to adapt them to the specific conditions of different research protocols, and even to develop new ones. Physicians will also need to be able to understand imaging methods and the physical and physiological significance of the images obtained.
