The study of the world at the molecular level, where peculiar laws hold sway, allows us to better understand our macroscopic world. The main scientific objective of this modular programme is to impart the fundamental knowledge essential to an in-depth understanding of complex molecular systems (synthetic or of biological origin) of molecular-based materials and nano-objects, in order to meet today's challenges in the fields of health, energy, environment and information. The main areas addressed in this Master's 2 programme in Inorganic, Physical and Solid Chemistry (CHIPS) are the following:
(i) concepts of synthesis; physical and chemical properties and spectroscopic and imaging characterisations at different macroscopic; nanoscopic and molecular scales of inorganic systems, (ii) understanding and modeling of molecular properties (structure, spectroscopies, kinetics, dynamics, thermodynamics, reactivity), with particular emphasis on the exploitation of the synergy "theory & simulations" / experiments, (iii) the manipulation of chemical and physical-chemical phenomena on small scales of time and/or space.
This entirely modular program gives students the freedom to build a customised course according to their preferences. It is also interdisciplinary and relies heavily on the proximity of the major instruments and technological platforms installed in the southern crescent of the Ile de France (SOLEIL, Elyse, Tandem accelerators, CLIO, microscopy platform). It is backed by the tremendous, world-famous research potential of Université Paris-Saclay's chemistry and physics laboratories. This programme also aims to develop skills in leading research projects, working in a team, and transmitting knowledge and skills. The concepts of innovation and creation are explored, along with those of law and intellectual property.
In order to apply to one of the programmes of the master, please select the programme you are interested in under the "Year 1 & 2 Master's programmes" tab .
