The foundations of the climate system are based on several disciplines: 1) physics, which explains the flows of the Earth's fluid envelopes (air, water), energy exchanges, light-matter interactions, wave aspects natural phenomena; 2) chemistry which is the source of key elements for the climate such as the greenhouse effect or the ozone layer, and for atmospheric pollution; 3) the Earth sciences, which provide geophysical and geochemical tools that make it possible in particular to understand the existing interactions between the different compartments of the climate system (atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, biosphere), the major biogeochemical cycles of the main elements associated in particular with the cycle of carbon, water, from the study of continental and marine climate archives (paleoclimatology, geochronometers) . 4) the human sciences, since current global warming has been demonstrated to be unequivocally of anthropogenic origin.
