Overview

The Sussex difference

We are a world-leading research university with many initiatives led by the forefront academics in their field, each driven by the belief that you can only make the future if you know what it looks like.

Our research feeds empirical knowledge into the great questions of our age, impacting policy and practice for businesses, NGOs and governments and more than 75% of our research activity is categorised world-leading or internationally excellent (REF 2014).

Our Masters courses

The University of Sussex has pioneered a mixed approach to research and learning, removing the traditional boundaries between subject areas and departments, encouraging collaboration and innovation. Our students are thoughtful, critical and brave, and go on to shape both policy and practice in economics, health, culture, climate change and more.

We have a broad range of taught and research postgraduate programmes across the arts, sciences and social sciences; and we’re sure you will find a course that will stimulate and challenge you, enabling you to develop your career.

We also offer the Sussex MBA, where you develop management and leadership skills through both practical tasks and theory. Among other things you learn about change management, critical thinking, problem-solving, negotiation and social networking – in a school ranked 50th in the world for business and economics (Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2018).

Entry requirements

We welcome applications for postgraduate study from across the world. You’re normally expected to have an upper second-class undergraduate honours degree (or in some subjects for Masters courses, a lower second-class undergraduate honours degree) or other professional qualification or experience of equivalent standing. Visit our webpages for more information on acceptable qualifications and tests.

English language requirements

All teaching at Sussex is in English and you must therefore meet our language requirements to benefit from our education. The Sussex Centre for Language Studies runs courses all year round if you’re looking to improve your English.

How to apply

The quickest way to apply for one of our postgraduate courses is through our postgraduate application system.
