Global challenges such as climate change, conflict and migration shape our world. You’ll explore these issues through their historical legacies and contemporary power structures.
You’ll develop the knowledge and tools to make a positive difference in the world. You’ll learn from active researchers, seeing different perspectives and disciplines. You’ll build practical experience through:
- modules and assignments that focus on real-world issues and build sought-after skills, from data analysis to creative problem-solving
- hearing from guest speakers from a wide range of organisations, including practitioners to policymakers, to see how social movements and communities are responding to new challenges
- a student consultancy module where you can work on real employer briefs
- a wide range of electives that allow you to tailor your degree to your interests and aims.
You will be part of a supportive community of academics and students who will help you make the most of your degree. We are passionate about achieving greater social and environmental justice.
Outside the classroom, you can get involved in the student-run Sociology and Criminology Society, the International Development Student Society, or any of the other over 180 student-led clubs and societies. There are also opportunities to apply to do international work placements.
