  • Specialise your skills and prepare for your future as a Chartered Engineer in diverse industries, including robotics and aerospace energy.
  • Build practical skills in Sussex’s Future Technologies Labs using professional equipment for robotics, embedded systems, electronics and digital design.
  • Benefit from our specialist training based on real industrial needs, alongside dedicated academic advisers and opportunities to meet employers.

Electrical and electronic engineering is fundamental to many of today's transformative technologies. From renewable energies to autonomous cars, and robotics to wireless communications, electrical and electronic engineering underpins all facets of our daily lives.

Your teaching will be informed by our research in areas such as:v

  • sensors
  • flexible electronics
  • medical robotics and imaging
  • 5G and future 6G communications
  • space systems.

You'll get hands-on experience in our Future Technologies Labs and specialist facilities, using industry-standard equipment. This could see you building robots, programming embedded systems and digital signal processors, or using modelling suites. You’ll also use our electronics and control engineering laboratories, and electrical drive systems, and could be part of one of the Formula Student or Medical Robotic teams.

You'll study core topics in mathematics, circuits, and programming before advanced modules in control systems, embedded systems, and power electronics. You’ll also get specialist training in applications ranging from sensor design to hardware accelerators, and from semiconductor devices to electric motors for future green transport.

You’ll progress to focus on either electrical or electronic engineering and there is an opportunity to apply to take a year in industry. In your final year, you’ll work on a project inspired by industrial needs.

You'll have dedicated academic advisers to support you during you time at Sussex, as well as a team of student mentors.

When you graduate you'll be ready to help fill the increasing global demand for engineers with expertise in both hardware and software and ready to develop smart, sustainable, and interconnected systems.
