This course is ideal for you if you have a strong academic record in neuroscience and want to further develop your research skills with greater focus on a research project.

With over 50 research groups on campus, Sussex Neuroscience is one of the largest and most interconnected neuroscience communities in the UK. On this course, you’ll be based in the School of Life Sciences and become a valuable part of our community. Our expertise spans a wide range of approaches to modern neuroscience including:

  • sensory processing
  • neural circuits
  • synapses and ion channels
  • neurodegeneration.

The MRes has a strong research focus. You’ll be taught and supervised by our research-intensive faculty:

  • our core modules encourage you to explore cellular and systems neuroscience
  • a range of options allows you to choose topics that interest you the most
  • you’ll gain half of the total course credits working on a research project within one of our research groups.

  • Degree requirements: You should normally have an upper second-class (2.1) undergraduate honours degree or above.
  • Subject-specific requirements: Your qualification should be in a relevant science subject such as neuroscience, biological psychology, biochemistry or biology. You may also be considered for the course if you have other professional qualifications or experience of equivalent standing.
