The Applied Social Science degree provides intellectual and practical skills, giving students the knowledge and ability to apply scholarly knowledge to real life issues and situations. Students may undertake a semester long work placement in your second year. There are three educational field trips during the course that enhance students’ critical engagement and improve understanding of the subject areas, as well as allowing students to experience real social science. Students will undertake a tour of Sheffield to identify key areas of social, cultural and political interest in the first year. In the second year there is a four-day visit to Brussels. While in Brussels students get to explore the institutions of the European Union presenting a first-hand experience of the EU policy-making environment and engaging with practitioners from across the EU political entity.
