Operating department practitioners (ODPs) are the only undergraduate professionals in the UK trained to work in operating theatres. Students will work alongside anaesthetists, preparing and assisting during surgical procedures and medical interventions, and providing recovery care for patients following treatments. This course qualifies students to register with the Health and Care Professions Council and work as an ODP. Along with practical operating department work placements students will engage with face-to-face classroom sessions, self-directed or tutor-directed sessions, and simulated practical working environments with your fellow students. ODPs are an integral part of the perioperative team and students will study partly alongside students from other health disciplines, such as nurses, diagnostic radiographers and physiotherapists.
