Sport business management covers traditional, functional management and business as applied in organisations within the sport industry covering management principles transferrable to a range of sectors. Graduates from this course are well equipped to take advantage of opportunities resulting from the continuing expansion of the global sport economy. You are encouraged to challenge existing management ideas and to critically analyse sport business problems in real industry settings. This develops your creativity and ability to find solutions, skills highly regarded by employers. In year two you have the chance to apply what you have learnt on a six-week work placement. Previous placements have included digital marketing assistant for Reebok India, Badminton England; Aston Villa, Norwich City and Sheffield United football clubs, Sheffield Steelers, Leicester Tigers, England Rugby 2015, the English Institute of Sport, Champneys Springs Health Resort. In the enterprise and innovation module students have the opportunity to present and develop their own business idea with the help of the University's Research and Innovation Office. They examine opportunities and markets, study entrepreneurship and innovation theory, as well as utilising applied research from their chosen sporting industry. Our students volunteered at the London 2012 Olympics, the Sochi 2014 Olympics and the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, mainly working within the media hubs. They also volunteered as tour makers at the 2014 Tour de France Grand Départ through opportunities specifically created for Sheffield Hallam students. Many of our staff are also active researchers within the renowned Academy of Sport and Physical Activity. The new developments and discoveries they make feed into the teaching on this course, ensuring that what you learn is at the forefront of knowledge. The University also has an internationally recognised research centre (SIRC) which offers our students exclusive opportunities to work alongside them on projects. Previous examples include The Open Championship, The Ryder Cup and Sainsbury's School Games
