The Department of History is a specialized academic department that focuses on the study and research of history and various civilizations. Its primary goal is to provide higher education in the field of history and to develop historical knowledge and scientific research in this field.

The history department offers courses taught by qualified and experienced faculty in various fields of history. It provides a supportive learning environment and research resources to help students enhance their understanding and research skills. In addition to theoretical and applied lessons, the department encourages participation in cultural activities and field research.

Upon graduation, students from the Department of History at Sabha University receive a bachelor's degree in education after studying for 8 semesters and completing 145 academic units. Graduates can work as history teachers in schools or contribute to areas related to historical research, museums, cultural tourism, and heritage.

The vision of the Department of History at the Faculty of Education is to prepare qualified graduates who can teach history. The department aims to graduate distinguished teachers who can achieve their desired goals in the educational process, deal with curricula, and enable students of all educational stages to reach a high level of quality and accreditation and acquire professional and practical skills.

The department also aims to serve the region, which is rich in resources and antiquities, by providing the community with necessary historical knowledge and upgrading the abilities of its students to the level of that knowledge to benefit from it in all walks of life. Furthermore, the department seeks to contribute to the development of historical studies by integrating its courses.

The basic tasks of the history department are based on three main pillars: the educational process, scientific research, and community service. Its objectives include recognizing the importance of history in human daily life, understanding the characteristics of different historical eras, developing sound systematic historical thinking in the analysis of historical events using and assisting information systems and modern technology, understanding the factors affecting the distribution of the world population and the impact of human migrations and spatial diversity in their redistribution and the exchange of cultures between them, appreciating the role of Arab and Muslim historians in the development of the science of history by highlighting their efforts and contributions, and pushing students and researchers at the postgraduate level towards the quality of scientific research and its originality by delving into specialized studies and writing valuable scientific research to create a generation of distinguished researchers in ancient, medieval, modern, and contemporary history.

Admission Requirements

To apply for admission to this department, the student must meet the following criteria:
- Hold a certificate of completion of the secondary stage with a literary specialty.
- Have an overall rating of at least 65%.
- Be in good health and physically fit.
- Take an educational entrance exam.
