Since its creation through Resolution 211 of December 10, 1973, the Biology Program of the Universidad del Valle has sought to contribute to the scientific, economic, social and cultural development of Valle del Cauca by training and educating professionals who contribute to the development of the discipline of Biology in the region and in the country. Thus, it can be said that the program since its inception has sought to formulate a curriculum that guarantees that students acquire attitudes, skills and abilities that enable them to identify and participate in the solution of problems in the different fields of biological sciences. Overall objective:
To train comprehensive and quality professionals, through a pertinent and excellent academic offer, based on research and the creation of scientific knowledge, with a flexible pedagogical and curricular strategy.
Specific objectives:
Train professionals capable of:
  1. identify problems in the different fields of biological science and be part of their solution;
  2. deepen the knowledge of Colombian fauna, flora and ecosystems, to participate in the development of policies for the conservation, management and rational use of such natural resources;
  3. use biological knowledge in the search and evaluation of solutions to problems of production and development of the country. 
  4. observe and apply the scientific method to the study of biological problems.
