The Doctorate in Humanities Academic Program was created by Resolution No. 055 of September 17, 2002 of the Superior Council of the Universidad del Valle, under the name of  Doctorate in Human Sciences. The first cohort of students opened in February 2006, and then changed its name to  Doctorate in Humanities, according to Resolution 047 of October 12, 2007. Its curriculum was defined by Resolution No. 091 of September 27, 2007 of the Council Academic and was granted the Qualified Registry, for the first time, through Resolution 2501 of August 23, 2004 of the Ministry of National Education. The program currently has the Renewal of the Qualified Registry, for seven years, through Resolution 012755, of July 10, 2020, of the Ministry of National Education. It has also received High Quality Accreditation, for six years, through Resolution 017184, of October 24, 2018 of the Ministry of National Education.
The Doctoral Program in Humanities is offered by the Faculty of Humanities of the Universidad del Valle. The Faculty is made up of six academic units: three departments and three schools. More precisely, the departments of Philosophy, Geography and History; and the schools of Language Sciences, Literary Studies, and Social Work and Human Development.
The Doctorate in Humanities is a generic doctorate, which is not registered in a single disciplinary field. This allows it to be enriched and strengthened from the professors and research groups of the six academic units that make up   the Faculty and from other Faculties such as the Social and Economic Sciences.
