Solid Mechanics, as a basic science of Engineering, allows the Doctorate Program to be offered both to the work groups of the School and to groups from other units; therefore, the Doctorate in Engineering, emphasis on Solid Mechanics, is based on interdisciplinary work around fields of knowledge whose purpose is to train individuals at the doctoral level in any of the branches of engineering and researchers at an advanced level to contribute to the development of a notional scientific technical capacity for the insertion of the country in globalization and modernity. This is the challenge, especially with the contribution of the Schools of Civil and Geomatic Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, to Colombian scientific and technological development based on problems of international and local relevance. The need to offer economic and efficient solutions in many areas of Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, in the development of civil infrastructure and in the generation of mechanical technology, widely support research and technological development in Solid Mechanics, based on concept of this doctoral emphasis.
