The Statistics academic program was created by Resolution 066 of February 22, 1979 of the Board of Directors, after a long and enriching academic discussion that included valuable contributions from professors from different areas, mainly from the Faculties of Science and Engineering. 
At the beginning of the 21st century, the academic program decided to apply to be the first Statistics academic program in Colombia to receive the recognition of high quality accreditation, a recognition that has been granted on successive occasions since 2002. The Academic Program of Statistics until the beginning of 2012 operated attached to the School of Industrial Engineering and Statistics of the Faculty of Engineering. On March 9, 2012, under Agreement 003 of the Superior Council, the School of Statistics was created with programs attached to it: the undergraduate degree in Statistics, the specialization in Applied Statistics and the Master's in Statistics. The Statistics undergraduate degree continues to be part of the Faculty of Engineering, where it has been located since its inception in 1978. which ratifies its main objective of training statisticians with theoretical bases that solve practical problems in their environment. As reflected in its mission: "The academic program of Statistics has as its primary mission to train suitable professionals in an integral way, people with values, useful to society and with solid knowledge of statistical theory so that they can apply them to solve problems. in the search for a better standard of living for their community.”
