The Master's Degree in History and Art Criticism aims to provide specific historical-critical knowledge and skills in the visual arts (architecture, sculpture, painting, graphic design, photography, applied arts, and new image production and reproduction technologies), supported by a solid foundation of cultural knowledge, including historical, philological, and literary studies, as well as appropriate scientific, technical, and methodological skills applicable to the professional fields of study, conservation, and promotion of artistic heritage. From this perspective, the program aims to deepen the historical-artistic knowledge acquired during the bachelor's degree program in historical, philological, stylistic, iconographic, and methodological terms. It also opens the door to in-depth study of issues and problems related to the protection, conservation, promotion, and management of historical-artistic heritage, as well as the scientific methods for their study.
The program is open to all, but requires assessment of prerequisites, which include the acquisition of appropriate historical-artistic training during the bachelor's degree program.
Core courses include the main historical and artistic disciplines, a course in Archaeology or History of Architecture, a course in history or literature, and a course in methodology.
Educational activities are organized on a semester-long basis and include lectures as well as workshops, seminars, and internships at museums and institutions active in the protection, study, and promotion of artistic heritage.
Considerable emphasis is placed on research leading up to the thesis.
