The Master’s degree in Quantitative Biology is a highly interdisciplinary programme designed to train a new generation of scientists capable of understanding and predicting biological complexity. A solid preparation in the biomolecular-cellular field, integrated with physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer science and artificial intelligence, will allow students to gain deep knowledge of *molecular and cellular processes, advanced measurement techniques, computational modelling,” and “data analysis”.

Programme Structure

Our Master’s degree in Quantitative Biology is structured over two years and is fully taught in English.

Students acquire 66 ECTS from compulsory courses (mostly during the first year) and 18 ECTS from elective courses, plus 3 ECTS from other learning activities (Italian for foreigners, soft skills courses, seminars, etc).

Most of the second year is devoted to the internship, which can be carried out in the research laboratories of the University of Milan or at other Italian or foreign partner institutions. During the internship, which must last at least 9 months, students will work on an original research project, whose results they will have to present in the final thesis.

Undergraduate diploma (or higher)

A. Students with an Italian University Degree*

Applicants to this Master’s degree programme are required to hold a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following classes:

Regardless of the Bachelor’s degree held, all applicants must have earned at least 12 university credits ( ECTS ) in biology-related subjects. A full list of these subjects is available on the University’s website

B. Students with non-Italian University Degrees

If you hold a foreign first-cycle degree (i.e. a Bachelor’s or other degree issued by a non-Italian higher education institution), the Admission Board will check your transcript of records to assess whether your first-cycle degree makes you eligible for admission.

As a general rule, the Admission Board is looking for applicants with a first-cycle degree as close as possible to those required of students with an Italian university degree, i.e. in fields related to mathematics, chemistry, physics, biotechnology etc. You should also be able to demonstrate that you have had adequate academic training in biology-related subjects, equivalent to at least 12 ECTS. Please note that the Admission Board may ask you to provide further documents to assess your prior academic studies.

Selection Process for All Applicants

All applicants will be invited to an interview with the Admission Board, to assess their background knowledge in the core subjects covered by the programme.

The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / German / French / Spanish / Italian.

• If you have a language certificate accepted by the University, just attach it to your application for admission. Please note that the University accepts only certificates obtained in the last 3 years (2 years for TOEFL ).
