The Program in Animal Production Sciences prepares graduates to work on agro-livestock farms as experts in livestock breeding technologies and management, genetic improvement, reproduction, animal nutrition and rationing, and economic management, with particular emphasis on animal welfare, environmental impact reduction, and qualitative improvement of livestock production.

The program provides knowledge and skills useful for managing all technical, economic, and regulatory aspects of agro-livestock farms and livestock farming. Graduates are able to assess the productive and functional capabilities of livestock and consider them in making company-wide decisions, taking into account environmental, ethical, and economic factors in compliance with current legislation.

Graduates are able to plan company-wide reproduction management, selection, and mating, and apply artificial insemination techniques. Graduates will manage growth phases and be able to formulate rations and feed for all animal species that produce food for humans. They will also possess the skills to perform cost and profitability analyses for agro-livestock farms. Graduates will acquire the methodologies to organize and manage aspects related to the production of food of animal origin, technologies, hygiene, quality control, and certification.

The program aims to achieve the following educational objectives:

- provide adequate knowledge of the various sectors of the animal production chains, including basic, theoretical, and applied aspects; - develop graduates with the ability to adapt to the evolution of animal production in light of technological and managerial innovations and to interact with culturally related professionals; - develop graduates with critical thinking, autonomy, teamwork—including within interdisciplinary groups—and the ability to readily integrate into work environments; - prepare graduates who are proficient in, in addition to Italian, at least one European Union language, including in relation to animal production; - provide graduates with the tools and skills that allow them to enter work or professional environments immediately after graduation or to continue their studies in master's degree courses or first-level master's degrees. - train expert graduates capable of operating and communicating in the various fields of animal science, particularly intensive and extensive livestock husbandry, food safety, feed processing, and the processing and marketing of animal products.

Admission Requirements and Knowledge

The Degree Course in Animal Production Sciences is open-access, with a mandatory self-assessment test prior to enrollment. Candidates with

a high school diploma or equivalent foreign qualification pursuant to Ministerial Decree no. 270 of 22 October 2004 may be admitted to the Degree Course in Animal Production Sciences

. Procedures and Knowledge Assessment:

Anyone wishing to enroll in the open-access Degree Course in Animal Production Sciences must take a mandatory test before formalizing their enrollment. This test assesses their initial preparation and allows for a

more informed and motivated choice of course of study. The test (TOLC - CISIA Online Test) can be taken at the University of Milan or any other university belonging to CISIA (Interuniversity Consortium for Integrated

Access Systems). Registration for the TOLC must be completed on the CISIA website ( www.cisiaonline.it ).

The TOLC test for enrollment in the Animal Production Sciences degree program is the mandatory, non-binding TOLC-AV self-assessment test (Online Agricultural and Veterinary Test), consisting of the following sections: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics,

Logic, and Verbal Comprehension.

The format and administration of the test are indicated in the admissions announcement: https://www.unimi.it/it/studiare/immatricolarsi-e-iscriversi

. Additional learning requirements and remediation procedures.

A negative test result does not affect enrollment, but an insufficient result will result in additional learning requirements (OFA) aimed at filling initial gaps. Freshmen who do not achieve

the score defined in the admissions announcement in the mathematics section will be assigned Additional Learning Requirements (OFA). For students with OFA, support activities will be organized, followed by a remedial exam in which the

student will be required to demonstrate their improved preparation. Without this evidence, the student will not be able to take any second-year exams until they have passed the Mathematics and Physics exams.
