The Degree Course in Physiotherapy, belonging to the Class of Degrees in the Rehabilitation Health Professions (Class L/SNT2), lasts three years.


Graduates in Physiotherapy, in accordance with the European Union guidelines, must:


- know the notions necessary to understand the biological phenomena related to the organization and functioning mechanisms of higher organisms;

- know the notions necessary for the understanding of human anatomy and physiology, with particular regard to the physiology of movement and cognitive processes;

- know the physiological bases of psychic and motor development;

- understand the fundamentals of pathophysiology in different clinical situations;

- know the scientific and cultural bases of the general rehabilitation methodology and in the various specialized sectors;

- understand and apply the codification of the state of health according to the International Code of Function (ICF);

- be able to identify and evaluate the manifestations related to the course of the main diseases, treatment, lifestyle habits, reactions to the disease, hospitalization and care interventions;

- be able to identify the physical, psychological and social needs in the areas susceptible to functional recovery of individual people of different ages, cultures and health statuses and of communities in various social environments;

- be able to identify the preventive and rehabilitative needs of the subjects through an evaluation of clinical data that takes into account the motor, psychomotor, cognitive and functional changes, and the coherence, extent and significance of the symptoms;

- know how to develop and execute the individual rehabilitation program, independently or in a multidisciplinary team, in the context of the individual and structural rehabilitation project, in the various specialized sectors (orthopedic, traumatological, neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular, oncological, critical area, maternal-child area rehabilitation, etc.)

o identifying rehabilitation objectives;

o identifying the methods and times of application of the most appropriate rehabilitation techniques on the basis of scientific evidence;

o using, according to the doctor's prescriptions and indications, physical, manual, kinesiotherapy, psychomotor and occupational therapies, taking into account the related indications and contraindications;

o quantifying the results of the rehabilitation intervention, also through the use of objective detection tools;

o proposing the possible use of orthoses, prostheses and aids;

o know how to recognize and respect their own role and skills and those of the other operators of the care team, establishing collaborative relationships, and interact and collaborate with interprofessional teams, in order to plan and manage rehabilitation or preventive interventions;

in particular, to be able to interact with the Specialist in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, as a direct and privileged reference for the definition of the rehabilitation project and for the evaluation of the outcome, in therapeutic contexts where the specialist himself has the overall clinical responsibility of the patient;

- know how to plan and implement prevention interventions andhealth education aimed at healthy people and education interventions aimed at the self-management of disability and rehabilitation;

- be able to recognize the main reactions of the person to illness, suffering, disability and hospitalization, respecting the behavioral differences related to the culture of belonging;

- be able to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with the individual, with his family and with the social context, aimed at implementing the prevention or rehabilitation program;

- know how to act in compliance with the legal rules and the disciplinary, ethical and deontological principles of the physiotherapist profession;

- have the knowledge to promote the actions necessary to overcome the limitations on the autonomy of the person resulting from disability, the removal of architectural barriers, the promotion of mobility, both in the workplace and in the home, in relation to the state of health of the individual and the current legislation in the sector;

- contribute to organizing rehabilitation activities through the definition of priorities, the appropriate use of available resources, also in collaboration with other health professionals, ensuring continuity of care and using tools for quality control;

- know the basics of research methodology and be able to participate in or develop research programs, applying the results in order to improve the quality of treatment;

- know how to carry out study, teaching and professional consultancy activities, in health services and in those where the professional skills of the physiotherapist are required;

- know the radiation protection standards provided for by the European Union directives (Legislative Decree 26 May 2000 n.187).


Students will acquire the knowledge of the English language adequate for communication and computer skills equal to those necessary for the ECDL start certification.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted into the degree programme, a candidate must have an Italian secondary-school diploma or similar diploma obtained overseas and deemed equivalent. Admission into the programme is capped, at a national level, pursuant to Law no. 264 of 2 August 1999. The number of students who may be admitted is set each year pursuant to a decree of the Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR), based on findings provided by the university in terms of available instructional, classroom, and clinical resources (human and otherwise), as well as the demand for the type of professionals contemplated for this Class as determined by the Region of Lombardy, and the Ministry of Health. The admission test will be administered as a national exam, generally in the month of September. The date will be set pursuant to a decree of MUR.
Additional Learning Requirements Students who answer less than 50% of the Biology and Chemistry questions on the admission test will be required to finish a set of Additional learning requirements (OFA). These prerequisites may be met through specifically assigned remedial work. Any failure to complete the OFA will make it impossible for the student to sit the exam in: Pre-clinical biomedical and human sciences
