The Single-Cycle degree programme in Dental Medicine (6 years)  aims to provide graduates with a solid scientific knowledge base, a relevant clinical training and all the skills needed to plan and perform preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures with regard to dental and periodontal diseases, while adopting a holistic and sympathetic approach towards the individual.
The Single-Cycle  degree programme in Dental Medicine promotes graduates’ lifelong learning and the application of clinical procedures grounded in the best evidence-based practices (EBP) made available by the literature.
Learning objectives: the basic disciplines in this programme represent a requirement for the development of medical and odontostomatological skills, which cannot be considered separately in the training of a health worker who puts the protection of human beings’ health at the centre of his/her professional vocation.

Particularly, graduates are expected to have acquired:

  • the scientific knowledge base and theoretical and practical skills needed pursuant to Directive 78/687/EEC for the activity of dental practitioners;
  • the methodology and culture necessary for lifelong learning; the methodological foundations of scientific research; professional, decisional and operational autonomy, resulting from a learning pathway which is characterised by a global approach to oral health problems affecting healthy and sick people, also considering the physical and social environment in which they live;
  • fundamental theoretical knowledge of basic sciences, with a view to applying it in future professional contexts;
  • clinical and pathophysiological knowledge of general medicine;
  • the ability to identify and critically assess data related to the status of health or sickness of the stomatognathic system of each individual, from a clinical standpoint and according to a unitary vision, also extended to the social and cultural dimension, and ability to interpret these data in light of the basic scientific knowledge, pathophysiology and pathologies of the stomatognathic system;
  • the ability to communicate with patients and their relatives clearly and humanely; the ability to arrange the work of their team, of which they know the relevant issues also in terms of communication and management of human resources.
