The M.Ed. in ECS is structured to provide students with one core course (3 credit hours). M.Ed. students then select their area of emphasis (interdisciplinary inquiry or reflexive praxis with or without ESL endorsement). Based on their selected area of emphasis, students select the remainder of their courses as outlined below (24–25 credit hours). For those seeking an ESL endorsement, the M.Ed. program will consist of a total of 31 credit hours. Those seeking to continue studies towards a Ph.D. after obtaining a M.Ed. must consult the Director of Graduate Studies after they have completed 18 credit hours of coursework.

  • A valid Bachelor's degree from an accredited University or College.
  • A 3.0 GPA
  • Letters of recommendation from 3 people providing an evaluative judgment concerning your academic or professional work.
  • At least 2 references should be people who have direct knowledge of your academic performance (i.e., professors).
  • A personal statement of professional goals: Education, Culture & Society is committed to the study and pursuit of social justice in education using frameworks and methodologies that address class race, ethnicity, sexuality, and gender in educational policies and practices. What are some of your goals, aspirations, and research interests, and how will these help develop, enhance, and define the ECS department? How do you envision contributing and affecting social justice in education?
