The Department supports the mission and vision of the Health Sciences Center and the University of Utah through excellence in education, research, clinical services and community outreach. The Department is an exciting place to learn about the breadth of the field of nutrition and integrative physiology, prepare for a career as a health care professional or further schooling, and participate in community action to improve health for all. The curriculum is based on strong foundations in biological sciences research. Students receive a broad exposure to classroom, clinical, and research settings and benefit from the University’s interdisciplinary approach to health sciences education. Identical/similar courses taken as part of a Master’s Degree program may be transferred into the PhD curriculum upon approval of supervisory committee. The program should take 3-5 years for completion. Core Classes - 21 Credits NUTR OR PHYS Core Classes - 9-9.5 Credits Elective Classes - 6 Credits Dissertation Hours - 36 Credits

Admission Requirements

All international graduate applicants to the University of Utah must meet the following minimum Graduate School requirements: A bachelor's degree from a regionally-accredited U.S. college or university or from an institution recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education in their home country. The Office of International Admissions will determine if applicants with international degrees meet the Graduate School's requirement of a recognized bachelor's degree. At least a 3.0 or higher undergraduate weighted mean GPA on a 4.0 scale. If the undergraduate GPA is below 3.0, a GPA will be calculated for the last two years attended if schooling was done at a foreign institution, and based upon the last 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) if the student attended a U.S. institution. Other English Language Requirements: 550 on the TOEFL PBT (paper-based).
