Entry requirements:
Approval and dissemination of the call. The Postgraduate Academic Commission (CAP) discusses, approves and sends the call proposal for new admission to the corresponding institutional instances (Division of Biological and Health Sciences and Research and Postgraduate Directorate). Once approved by these instances, it is published in different printed and electronic media. Admission to the program is managed each year. The call is regularly published between the months of April and May.
Online registration of applicants. The applicant registers online in the portal https://aspirantesposgrado.uson.mx/ where she must capture information regarding personal data, academic career and work experience. In addition, she must upload to the platform the documents indicated in the call.
Review of documents. It is verified if the applicant meets the basic requirements of the call: bachelor's degree, minimum school average of 80, command of the English language (TOEFL 450 points) and other documents indicated in the call.
Exam application. Applicants take the National Postgraduate Entrance Examination (EXANI III). Foreign students have the option of presenting this exam at the University of Sonora or at other locations in the Mexican Republic, as long as the date of delivery of results and their validity coincide with the times of the admission process to the master's degree (with a minimum of 1000 points).
Pre-selection of applicants. The Academic Commission makes a pre-selection with the applicants who met the entry requirements in a timely manner and submitted the required documentation. After having fulfilled the requirements and having taken the exams satisfactorily, the Postgraduate Coordination issues a statement of who were satisfactorily evaluated, and summons the students to an interview with the Postgraduate Academic Commission, and once the applicants have been evaluated, issues the verdict of accepted, conditioned or rejected.
Interview. The pre-selected applicants must attend an interview that is conducted by the professors who are members of the Postgraduate Academic Commission. The interview includes the assessment of six items: Vocational interests and areas of interest in the last grades of study; criteria used to select the postgraduate degree in biosciences; postgraduate terminal areas in biosciences of interest and why; availability of time to dedicate to postgraduate studies; the research proposal to be developed; the main strengths to carry out the postgraduate degree in a timely manner. The applicant's curriculum vitae is also analyzed.
Publication of results. According to the results of the evaluations, the selection of future students is carried out by the Postgraduate Academic Commission, weighting as follows: interview (50%) EXANI III (25%) and TOEFL ITP (25%). The results comprise three categories: a) Accepted, in this case the student enrolls regularly in the program. b) Accepted conditionally, it occurs when the applicant lacks the professional title to complete his file. In accordance with the postgraduate regulations of the University of Sonora, the student is accepted conditionally and must meet this requirement within a maximum period of six months from the date of the first registration. c) Not accepted, for cases in which the applicant does not meet the admission and score criteria established by the academic committee.
