The Academic Master’s Program in Philosophy, in accordance with the Institutional Educational Plan of the Universidad del Valle (approved by Higher Council Resolution No. 001 of January 29, 2002), has as its mission “to provide higher education, through the generation and dissemination of knowledge, in the field of philosophy, with autonomy and a commitment to social service,” and its vision is “the consolidation of a program of excellence with international reach and high-quality academic research.”
Since its creation in 1988, the Master’s Program in Philosophy was designed with the fundamental purpose of offering the philosophical community and professionals from other disciplines the opportunity for training that would enable them to develop research skills in the various areas of philosophy or, in the case of individuals trained in other fields of knowledge (lawyers, doctors, media professionals, psychologists, architects, physicists, mathematicians, among others), to use the conceptual resources offered by philosophy to reflect on and analyze problematic aspects of their own disciplines.
