The purpose of the Ph.D. degree in Health Promotion and Education is to prepare graduate students to perform at the highest levels of research, teaching, and administration in various health settings. The program goals focus on program planning, program evaluation, research, and state of the art interventions with populations or health content. Graduates will work in the communities, schools, government agencies, and various worksites. Content areas of expertise may be a variety of topics that include 1) body image and eating disorders, 2) resilience and stress management, 3) integrative health, and 4) emergency programs, or 5) selected populations (families, international populations, and others). Learning Outcomes demonstrate an advanced understanding of health promotion and education theories and their application to health research. develop advanced skills in health promotion planning and evaluation. be competent is the delivery of health messages through a variety of classroom, media, and technological delivery mechanisms. be skilled in using advanced research design and quantitative statistics in addition to an understanding of qualitative research methods. develop an area of specialization and expertise as indicated in their coursework, dissertation, and experiential activities. be able to identify primary interventions that can prevent lifestyle diseases. identify positive health approaches to helping people change their behaviors. be involved in publishing and other scholarly pursuits during the Ph.D. experience.
