The Department of Sociology, Faculty of Arts, Alasmarya Islamic University offers educational programs in the Sociology. Sociology is important for community service because it provides a framework for understanding and analyzing the social, economic, and cultural factors that shape a community's needs and issues by studying society and gaining insight into the social structures and systems that affect the well-being of individuals and communities. This knowledge can then be used to design and implement programs and services that meet these needs and improve the quality of life for community members. In addition, sociological studies can help community service professionals identify and address social inequalities and disparities, and work to create more equitable and just societies overall. Sociological studies play a critical role in informing and directing community service efforts, and in promoting social justice and positive change.

 

The sociology department can achieve many aims among them:
- To produce trained scientific competencies in the fields of sociology and social service. - To build the graduate and develop his abilities to discover society’s problems and deal with them in a scientific manner. - To serve scientific research related to social phenomena, issues and problems, especially in Libyan society. - To strengthen the social responsibility of institutions and their role in society by providing guidance services and providing their employees with advanced programs and scientific methods. - To make active contribution to various programs are available to serve the Libyan community, such as volunteer, awareness and development aspects. - To develop curricula for teaching sociology and social service, and provide them with new ones every three years to suit contemporary developments, and field training and linking the university to the local Libyan environment. - To build inter-partnerships with sectors of society through preparing and implementing programs, courses, social consultations and research projects. Twinning with similar scientific departments in local and international educational institutions.   For employment market, graduates of the Department of Sociology can join the following fields: -The field of social development and rural and urban development: A sociology graduate can work in environmental protection centers, awareness centers, social security bodies, intellectual development centers, social rehabilitation centers, social care homes, and the care and rehabilitation of the disabled. - Health field: Sociology graduates can work in social health care jobs in hospitals. - Education: Where one can work in teaching or as a social worker for students, as well as the field of student counseling in schools. - Industry field: Sociology graduates can work in social services departments in factories and industrial institutions. - The field of public relations: in governmental and private institutions. The field of security sectors and rehabilitation centers (prisons): where you can work as a social researcher for guidance and awareness in prisons and security centers. - Civil Service: This is within civil society institutions, and civil institutions such as charities and others. -Sports club institutions: by working as an organizer of sports and social activities in sports clubs.
