The department was established in 2020. The program
has 136 units, 52 courses, and a minimum of 8 semesters of study for
graduation, one batches of students have been enrolled in the program and three
alumni.
Microbiology is one of the educational programs
at the Faculty of science at the university and includes a group of specialized
professors and lecturers in the field in both bachelor's and master's degrees.
The department includes a large number of students and is considered the
largest department in terms of the number of students in the college. The
department offers an integrated educational program that targets everything
related to microbiology in relationship with humans and the environment, so
that the graduate becomes familiar with all aspects related to microbes and
their importance. It provides ideas aimed at overcoming the problems caused by
microorganisms as well as the extent of benefiting from microbiology in various
medical, industrial and environmental fields in a way that benefits society and
the environment.
Program objectives:
1. Helping students to acquire the most advanced and state-of-the-art
sciences to form solid foundation that enables them to practice their research
work in any field of Microbiology in a way that keeps pace with the accelerated
scientific development.
2. Providing advanced laboratory tools and devices to provide students with
valuable scientific resources as much as possible.
3. Creating a spirit of honest competition among students within the
department, encouraging them to keep it up and improve their level. In order to
double their efficiency and ability to engage in research in the field of microbiology
in addition to motivating them to creativity, innovation and a constant desire for
achievement.
4. Encouraging teamwork in the department through the preparation of joint research
and trying to link the department in the future with the rest of the
corresponding scientific departments at other universities; teamwork can help
exchange experiences and unite efforts. In addition, encouraging students to
attend conferences and forums related to microbiology, in order to follow the
renewed scientific development in their field.
Recruiters: graduates of the department
of microbiology can work in many areas of great importance to society and the
state, the graduate may continue their higher studies and become a faculty
member at a university or they can work in the medical field as a laboratory
technician specializing in analyses related to microbes. They can work in the
field of environmental sanitation and environmental pollution control or in
food control centres or in food products factories such as yogurt, dairy,
cheese, tuna and others, and the graduate can work in research centres
specialized in genetic engineering, biotechnology, …etc.
