The Department of Islamic Economy and Finance, Faculty of Sharia and Law, Alasmarya Islamic University offers a Bachelor in Islamic Economy and Finance. The program has 147 units and 55 courses, and requires a minimum of 8 semesters of study for graduation. Five batches of students have been enrolled in the program.

This is one of the specialized departments in the Faculty of Sharia and Law; the department was established in the academic year of 2011/2012. The department aims at graduating scientific competencies majoring in the area of Islamic Banking and Finance; the department, therefore, actively contributes in improving the status quo and presents itself as a source of cultural and scientific content. The department also aims to become a major research center and compete with comparable renowned institutions in the Islamic world and to become a dependable source for solutions for economic and financial issues.  

The program goals include; first, educating highly qualified cadres in the field of Islamic Economy and Finance. Second, equipping financial, banking and economic   institutions with trained human resources to work according to Sharia principles. Third, contributing to the efforts put forward to transform traditional banks into Islamic institutions which will eventually help make the transition into a complete Islamic economic system. Fourth, making contributions to improve the Libya economy within an Islamic framework. Fifth, providing legitimate and practical solutions for economic issues.  

Graduates can pursue jobs in a number of areas. For instance, they can work in the banking sector. In addition, they can fill in positions of financial services, Islamic audits and different supervision duties. Graduates can also work in insurance companies, Islamic banking and other financial corporates. Moreover, graduates can work in Zakat management office, Office of Religious Endowments and they can fill teaching staff positions in universities.
