The Libraries and Information Department at the Faculty of Arts, Alasmarya Islamic University, was established in 2014. Offering an educational program in Libraries and Information, the department boasts 135 units distributed across 52 courses. Graduation from the program requires a minimum of seven semesters. Throughout its existence, the department has produced 57 graduates across 5 batches. From its inception, the department has been committed to delivering excellence within the constraints of available resources, aiming to align with the advancements in the ever-evolving field of libraries and information .

Central to the program's mission is meeting the needs of the labor market, specifically in libraries, information, and archive institutions in Zliten and throughout Libya. It emphasizes the pivotal role of libraries, information institutions, and archives in contributing to scientific developments across diverse knowledge domains. The department actively contributes to serving the Libyan community by producing specialists and qualified librarians and archivists, with a focus on providing optimal information services to all categories of beneficiaries .
