The Department of Electrical
and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Alasmarya Islamic University offers a
major in Electrical Power Engineering. The program has 154 units and 60
courses, and requires a minimum of 10 semesters
of study for graduation. Two batches of students have been enrolled in the
program up to this year.
The Electrical Power Engineering program was established in 2014. The
study of electrical power engineering is one of the cornerstones of modern
education because the field is closely linked to development in industrial
fields and aspects of modern life. The steady development witnessed in the
sub-areas and uses of this field is evidence of its importance. The program leads
to a bachelor degree and aims to graduate skilled professionals capable of competing
in the labor market as well as participating in research and development in their
field.
The goals of
this program include providing specialized engineering cadres in the field of
electrical power engineering as well as teaching and training students the
principles and methods of electrical power engineering, including the
mathematics and sciences necessary to design, analyze and study electrical
systems. Furthermore, the programs seeks to provide training to students to use
modern laboratory equipment and software to conduct and simulate experiments in
order to collect data and test theories. Graduates are also expected to develop
effective written and verbal communication skills and work as part of a team.
The program also strives to prepare engineers qualified to keep pace with
contemporary developments, in order to work in industrial and technical fields,
research centers and community service, and to pursue postgraduate studies.
Another goal is training graduates to conduct scientific research in order to
disseminate knowledge in various engineering and scientific fields and to find practical
solutions to the problems faced by public and private sectors in Libya. Another
core goal is enhancing the capabilities of the teaching staff through visits, secondments,
participation in scientific conferences, and developing regional and
international cooperation with prestigious universities around the world. Last
but not least, deepening graduates’ understanding of professional
responsibilities and ethics and adopting the attitude of a lifelong learner.
Program
graduates can fit well in my professional settings after graduation. Examples
of these settings include oil, electricity and renewable energy companies as
well as all types of factories. Graduates can also serve in service and public
sectors and they can establish private companies and workshops.
